Welcome, James Lloyd!

You might not have heard yet, but exciting developments are happening at Denton, Zachary, and Norwood PLLC Law Firm. Thanks to your ongoing support, we have been able to assist clients across Arkansas involved in car accidents, particularly those involving semi-trucks. To enhance our service, we have an addition to our team. Join us in giving a warm welcome to our newest attorney, James Lloyd! We are more than thrilled and can’t wait for you to meet him.

As a lifelong Arkansas native, James grew up in Vilonia, just outside of Conway. He described it as the perfect place to grow up, in part due to the magic surrounding the community’s love for high school football. While he remembers his hometown fondly, after high school, he made the move to Little Rock to attend UALR, which set him on his path to law school.

While he says he’s entertained by lawyer shows, like Suits, just as much as the next person, that’s not what made him want to become a lawyer. In fact, he just kind of fell into it. His plans of becoming a civil engineer fell through when he realized his interest in history and political science far surpassed any joy math and physics could bring him.

Instead of designing bridges as a civil engineer, the idea of pursuing law became appealing, in large part due to his future wife’s studies. After helping her prepare for the LSAT, he decided to take the test, too. He passed and was accepted into the William H. Bowen School of Law at the U of A in Little Rock. And as they say, the rest is history. But there’s still more to his story.

During law school, he worked as a paralegal and had various roles with a Fortune 500 company. After spending his first year as a lawyer there, he decided to move into private practice at another firm in Little Rock. As a defense attorney, he represented insurance companies and their clients. Both experiences provided him with a foundation in personal injury cases with a focus on car accidents.

His path to personal injury law was somewhat unexpected, but he found fulfillment in helping people and advocating for their rights. He said this type of work aligns with his personality and allows him to assist those in need and also notes that it’s different from other legal fields like family law, as the focus is on compensation for injuries rather than custody battles or criminal trials.

Ultimately, the legal path proved to be the right choice for him, especially in personal injury litigation. His personality aligns well with this area of law, and he said he feels fortunate to be in a field where he can make a meaningful impact.

While his background is in defense law, he recently transitioned to representing plaintiffs as the newest member of Denton, Zachary, and Norwood. Since he’s been on both sides of the courtroom, he understands not only what it takes to win a case for his clients but, most importantly, what it means to help others. He said the main challenge our clients face is securing fair compensation for their claims. While time cannot be reversed to go back before the accident occurred, your attorney, James, can help clients receive monetary compensation for their injuries.

Navigating the complex claims process created by insurance companies can be tough for clients. That’s where James can step in to offer guidance and support to ensure a fair settlement is received for the claims filed. He said we help our clients through this challenging process, providing the expertise needed to achieve the best possible outcome for them.

Although he’s only been at Denton, Zachary, and Norwood for a few months, he already experienced the rewarding human element of working on the plaintiff side. On his second day, he settled his first case, which gave him a firsthand look at the other side’s approach compared to his time as a defense attorney.

After spending all day getting to know his client, when the compensation was awarded from the settlement, he could see how significantly it would change her life. He said it was her gratitude that was eye-opening and deeply rewarding and confirmed his hopes for his new role. It was a promising start that gave him a sense of fulfillment in helping his clients improve their lives.

Next, we asked James what he thought were the skills needed to be a successful lawyer. He said one of the most important qualities of a personal injury attorney is the ability to connect with people and talk to them about their experiences and challenges. Being approachable and empathetic helps build relationships and trust with clients, which is crucial for this line of work, he said.

Additionally, he said the willingness to step into the courtroom without fear of failure is essential. Even the most skilled attorneys don’t win every case, so it’s important to be resilient and confident in advocating for your clients. Presenting a case in front of strangers on a jury requires strong communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to navigate the dynamics of a trial effectively. In short, his advice for those looking to get into law practice is to have a combination of hard and soft skills that can make a significant difference in achieving success in personal injury law.

So what makes Denton, Zachary, and Norwood better than the other guys? He said that being available and responsive to clients is a key aspect of our firm, especially since we pride ourselves on being a small firm that prioritizes personalized attention. Whether it’s through our client intake specialist or directly through the attorneys, we emphasize being accessible to our clients and promptly addressing their needs. These skills are crucial for maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring their concerns are addressed throughout the legal process. Making sure our clients feel supported and cared for is a huge part of what we do.

Sometimes, it is hard to separate work from home life, especially when your wife is also a lawyer. With two lawyers in the house, they definitely enjoy their downtime. When not in the courtroom, James and his wife, Britney, can be found spending time with their almost four-year-old daughter, Addison, at almost any Razorback sporting event. As a huge Razorback sports family, a lot of their activities revolve around watching games. While he’s still reeling from his trip to Disney World, he said it’s always good to be back in the Natural State, especially when it’s tee time on the golf course.

Now that we got to know James on a professional level let’s find out a little bit more about him. As the newest member of our team, we thought we’d ask James some get-to-know-you questions, rapid-fire style. During our questions, we discovered his hidden talent is he can play several musical instruments, mainly the guitar. If you see him around, ask him about his ukulele. Read on to see the rest of his answers.
